Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCE) welcomes students from elementary to high school for visiting our headquarter office in Tokyo. As part of integrated studies, school trips, career education programs, we have various programs to match their learning objectives.

Game Study in Class

Since 2006 (ongoing)

For sound upbringing of youth, SCE designs and conducts classes regarding game industry. We have a number of programs such as learning how to get along with games (media literacy) and career Education, and have been giving lectures at elementary, junior high, and high schools around Japan.

Community Cleanup Activity

November, 2012

SCE 2012 new employees participated in a cleanup activity at the Tokyo Rinkai Disaster Prevention Park located in Koto-ku. With cleaning equipment and garbage bags, they worked together to collect garbage such as fallen leaves, bottles, cans, etc.. Appreciating their health as well as the earth which provides fresh air and greenery, the newly joined SCE staff took a first step towards social contribution.

Home Building Volunteer in Costa Rica

February, 2012

Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) employees visited Costa Rica to join the home building project of Habitat for Humanity (international NGO) for vulnerable families in La Cruz, Guanacaste area. SCEA volunteers worked together to build a home with local residents who need homes, and contributed to help developing the independence of the residents and a peaceful community.



 

Tompkins Cortland Community College Tour

January, 2012

SCEA cooperated with Tompkins Cortland Community College which has a course that includes fourteen days of experiential learning in Burbank, and the Bay Areas of California. Supporting the local university, SCEA invited students to the studios in San Diego and Foster City, and provided a job experience opportunity. Through studio tours, job shadowing, and lectures, students gain research methods, leadership skills, and teamwork etc.

 

Inn Vision Shelter Network Back Pack Drive

September, 2012

SCEA’s Foster City office partnered with the InnVision Shelter Network to provide backpacks and school supplies to homeless children living in their transitional housing programs. SCEA staff brought stationaries from their home and able to provide 90 completed backpacks. As a set of school supplies for a new semester, these backpacks will be handed out to the children.

 

Walk N Wag

October, 2012

SCEA staff participated in Walk N Wag, a charity event hosted by Humane Society Silicon Valley (HSSV), where the community came together to complete a 3 mile + walk with their furry companions and collect donations. SCEA employees were able to raise over $1,000 for the Humane Society Silicon Valley.

Volunteer Day

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) partnered with a variety of charitable organizations for disadvantaged children to help their growth in community. Here is to introduce a part of the activities done by SCEE.

Action For Kids
2011/2012

SCEE staff participated in Action for Kids (AFK), a national charity event working with children and young people with physical and learning disabilities and their parents and carers. In 2011, SCEE volunteers participated and supervised the children from AFK in a sports day. In 2012, SCEE staff together with young people from AFK visited London’s Science Museum to learn about physics and instruments at the exhibits. SCEE donated £200 towards the day and a PlayStation®3 with games to the charity. The charity plans to use the donated products for social engagement days.

Green Corridor
June, 2011

SCEE participated in a charity event, Green Corridor, which works to improve the employability of disadvantaged people through land based learning. Their work is hands on, practical and engaging, helping to build technical skills and personal development for young people who often struggle to find their place in their community. SCEE is helping Green Corridor transform Western Road Allotment a derelict allotments into productive space where they can bring children build technical skills.


 

Community Partnership

Since 2008 (ongoing)

SCEE Liverpool office founded a 'partnership project' with Grandison Allotment Society, a community allotment site based in Liverpool (Walton). It is used by children to learn about growing plants and cooking. In 2008, they carried out a transformation project and turned a dilapidated allotment into a thrived place, where local school uses for the gardening club. In 2011, activities such as painting the club house/fences and relining their poly tunnels have been done. The volunteer day in 2012 mainly focused on maintenance tasks such as painting fences, weeding pathways and turning over land.


 

PlayStation®First

August, 2012

SCEE proactively engaged in PlayStation®First, which has been developed as an Academic Partnership Program. This is a program that SCE and Worldwide Studios (WWS) to support game related training and research at universities and talent incubators. It aims to inspire innovation using PlayStation® platforms by establishing partnerships with institutions. SCEE contributes by providing development hardware to universities in order to teach computer engineering, computer science, game development and creative game design.




SCEH

SCEH Chinese Lunch in Silence

September, 2012

Sony Computer Entertainment Hong Kong Limited(SCEH)staff participated in a “Chinese Lunch in Silence” event hosted by NGO “DiD.” Participants have to wear headphones and no conversations allowed during a 2-hour lunch. In between, teambuilding workshops and sign language lessons were held. We aimed to enhance communication skills and relationship-building among staff, and to show empathy and understanding to disable (hearing disabilities) society in Hong Kong. This contribution was also featured in a local newspaper.

Charitable Book Event

2009 / 2011 / 2012

SCEH has conducted a charity program with ‘Heifer International Hong Kong’ which aims to work with communities to end hunger and poverty and care for the earth. From the sale of a charitable book written by a SCEH Director & General manager of Marketing Division, Mr. James Hong, all proceeds were donated to ‘Heifer International Hong Kong’ to support its poverty alleviation work in rural China.
In 2012, SCEH staff participated in a charity event in Sichuan, China, and donated PlayStation’s stationeries as well as books to the children in disadvantaged families. The objective of the event was to ensure villages and households are back in normal conditions after severe earthquake happened in Sichuan in 2008. The SCEH contribution was also published in a local newspaper.

Offering Job Opportunities at Asia Game Show

Since 2007 (ongoing)

Since 2007, during the Asia Game Show period in December, SCEH offers job opportunities for the residents of Tin Shui Wai where low-income earners live in order to revitalize this district. This social activity by SCEH receives considerable media attentions and makes the front page of local newspaper.


Game Console Recycling Program

2011-2012

In order to collect old game console for recycling, SCEH have partnered with more than 10 shopping malls in Hong Kong to launch Game Console Recycling Program. Total of 300-400 consoles were gathered during a year, and they were all sent to an NGO organization with recycling department for further actions.

Supportive Activity for "Internet Hotline Center" (Japan)

For sound development of the Internet, SCE cooperate to the activities of the Internet Hotline Center, and support creating a safe environment that people can use the Internet at ease.
