CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Career Education Game Study in Class 〜Building bridges between Schools and Career〜

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCE) and the Association of Corporation and Education (ACE), a non-profit organization, jointly conduct integrated study classes at elementary and junior high school. Each class is designed with game industry as a main theme. We would like to contribute to sound upbringing of youth as well as introducing correct information for game industry. Some examples of on-going classes are shown below.

 

“Curious Relationship between Game Making and Physics” (Physics and Career Education)

Targeted Grade: 7th grade ~ high school students
Duration of Time: 1 period
Summary:

Game programming utilizes the basic concept of junior high school physics.
Visually and clearly explain ‘law of motion’ in mechanics using a specially developed golf game. Students also discover how the schoolwork is to be utilized in career.

 

“Curious Relationship between Game Making and Mathematics”(Mathematics and Career Educationthematics)

Targeted Grade: 7th ~ 9th grade
Duration of Time: 1 period
Summary:

Game programming utilizes the basic concept of junior high school mathematics.
Showing coordinate calculation programmed for actual game characters, students learn proportion, inverse proportion and linear function.

 

“People Working for PlayStation®” (Career Education)

Targeted Grade: 5th ~ 9th grade
Duration of Time: 1 period
Summary:

Business is consisted of the unified cooperation of employees. Introducing various positions at SCE in order to launch a new game into the market, students are encouraged to cultivate a broad view of a career and work.


 

“Fractional Calculation with Game Characters” (Mathematics)

Targeted Grade: 1st ~ 6th grade
Duration of Time: 1 period
Summary:

Learn to do fractions by utilizing the characteristics of our unique game characters, LocoRoco*. Providing the explication of the arithmetic structure, students figure out fractional calculations logically rather than memorizing formulas.

“Getting along with Games” (Media Literacy)

Targeted Grade: 5th ~ 9th grade
Duration of Time: 1 period
Summary:

Students consist of several groups to discuss creators’ originalities and ingenuities in producing games, and give out their presentations to the class. Learn to get along with games by objectively examining their attractive and magnetic attributes.

 

“Writing a Game Scenario”(Integrated Study)

Targeted Grade: 5th ~ 9th grade
Duration of Time: 1 period × 9 days (for 1 ~ 3 months)
Summary:

Work in a group to write a game scenario with story settings and modeling characters. This class is aimed to learn how to express properly and appealingly what one wants to convey to others.
